Lesson 5

Lesson Text: Matthew 2:13-15

Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”

When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”

After the wise men left God told Joseph through an Trumpet 4angel to take Jesus and Mary and go to Egypt. Joseph awoke from his dream. It was still night. He woke up Mary. Together with young Jesus they fled in the darkness. They obeyed God and traveled until they came to Egypt. In Egypt they were safe. Joseph, Mary and Jesus lived in Egypt until God told JosephJoseph it was time to move again.

MOVING GAME

Have you ever moved? Did you like your new home? Did you miss your old home? How did your toys and clothes get to your new house? Did you help pack and unpack? Take turns with members of your family naming things to pack for moving. Start with the letter A and go to Z. (Leave out difficult letters). Name things to pack that begin with each letter.

Family Discussion:

Please discuss with your child what the move to Egypt must have been like for Joseph, Mary and Baby Jesus. For example: No McDonalds, No Best Western Motels......Mary and Jesus probably rode on a donkey.

Note about clipart:  We do not know what Jesus, or angels or any Bible character looks like. We use pictures to represent Bible people and places to help the children to relate to the story. Please explain to your child that no one knows what any of it looked like except from what we read about in the Bible or in history books.
