Lesson Text: Matthew
5:1,2 and 13-16
1 "And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain,
and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2 Then He opened His
mouth and taught them, saying:...
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt
loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing
but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14 “You are the
light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand,
and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light
so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your
Father in heaven."
Jesus tells
His disciples that they are the salt of the earth and the light of the
world. When your mom cooks a meal she will sometimes
use salt to give the food flavor. Those who follow the ways of God are
like salt to those here on earth, they show a different way to live than
those who do not follow God’s teachings.
Sin is like
darkness, it is mean, ugly, and it leads to death. God and His way is
like light, it is good, beautiful and His way leads to eternal life.
Those who follow Jesus are living God’s way and they shine like a light
to a world full of dark, ugly sin. Those who live for God and let their
light shine show the world God and His Son, Jesus.
Let’s sing a song:
THIS
LITTLE LIGHT
This Little Light Of Mine
I’m gonna let it shine.
This Little Light Of Mine
I’m gonna let it shine.
This Little Light Of Mine
I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, Let it shine, Let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel,
NO!
I'm gonna let it
shine.
Hide it under a bushel,
NO!
I'm gonna let it
shine.
Hide it under a bushel,
NO!
I'm gonna let it
shine.
Let it shine, Let it
shine, Let it shine.
Let it shine all over this world
I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine all over this world
I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine all over this world
I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, Let it shine, Let it shine.
FAMILY DISCUSSION:

Talk to your parents about ways that you
can let your light shine for Jesus. Then practice letting your light
shine for one another. If you learn to let your light shine toward your
family, you will be real good at letting your light shine out to those
who do not know God and His Son, Jesus. It will become something you do
without even thinking about it. God wants us to let our light shine for
everyone.
