Lesson Text: Matthew 5:1-2;7
And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: ...Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
...he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. (Romans 12:8)
God wants us to love others and to feel bad for them when hurtful things happen to them. He wants us to help others when wrong things happen to them. It is selfish to look away and not help others when we can do something to help them or to make them feel better. Sometimes people are lonely and just need a friend. If you are a kind friend to someone who is lonely that is a way of showing mercy. God wants us to be cheerful and happy when we show mercy toward others.

Discuss ways your family can show mercy toward each other and to those outside your family.

__ 1. Kiley lost her favorite doll and her friend, Ivy, helped her to look for it.
__ 2. Kody wanted to go play ball with his friends but he still had chores to do. His brother, Brendon, offered to finish his chores so that he could go.
__ 3. Zackery owed his brother, Jaylon, some money. Granddaddy gave Zackery some money. It was just enough to buy their Mom the birthday present Zackery wanted to get. Jaylon insisted he had to give him the money he owed him.
__ 4. A neighborhood bully hit Javon and made him cry. Nelson and Isaac, two older boys saw what happened and came over and brushed off Javon, told him some funny jokes that made him laugh.
__ 5. Lexi couldn't walk. She used a wheel chair to get around. Walker and Regan made fun of her because she couldn't run and play like they did.
__ 6. Deja misplaced her sister's sweater that she had borrowed. Her sister knew that Deja would be punished when their mother found out how careless Deja had been. Deja begged her sister to help her look for it but instead her sister laughed at her and ran to tell their mother.
