Open you Bible to the New Testament to the book of
Matthew, chapter 7,
and verse 12.
*READ: Matthew 7: 12
"Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this
is the Law of the Prophets."
This verse is often called the Golden Rule. It teaches us how we are to
treat others. Matthew was an apostle who wrote the first book of the New
Testament. He tells about the life of Christ. Jesus was sinless. He
never one time went against God's Word. None of us are perfect, but if we
follow God's commandments, we can go to Heaven some day.
*PRACTICE: Write the verse found in Matthew
7:12.
Let's look a little closer at our verse. Talk about these questions with
your Mom or Dad:
1. How do you want your friends to treat you?
2. How do you treat your friends?
3. If someone is "different" to you, how do you then treat them? How
should you treat them?
4. What can you do to help yourself treat others better?
Let's open our Bibles again. This time turn to
Ephesians 4:32. This verse is also
in the New Testament. Read this verse out loud or ask your parents to
please read it to you.
"And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as
God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:32
The apostle Paul wrote the book of Ephesians. This verse teaches us that
we are to be kind to one another. We are to forgive one another.
Remember to always treat others the way you want to be treated. We are to
always be kind, even when someone is not kind to us. We are to be
forgiving of each other. Is that not the way we want to be treated?
Talk about these pretend and real situations with your Mom or Dad:
1. You received a new bicycle for your birthday. Your cousin has come
for a visit. He wants to ride your new bicycle. What should you do?
Should you let him ride it?
2. You only have 15 minutes to play at the park. You see a lady fall and
drop her bag of groceries. Cans are rolling around on the ground. Should
you go ahead and play, or should you stop to help the lady pick up her
items?
3. Can you think of a time when someone did not play fairly with you?
How did it make you feel?
4. Can you think of a time when someone was extra nice to you? How did
that make you feel?
Remember to always be kind and forgiving with other children. Play nice
and always share. Always remember to treat others the way that you would
want them to treat you.
