Compassion & Kindness Toward Others

Let’s open our Bibles to the New Testament. We are going to look for the book of Ephesians, chapter 4, and verse 32 (Ephesians 4:32).

*Read: Ephesians 4:32 out loud, or ask mom or dad to please read it to you.

"And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:32

A man named Paul wrote the book of Ephesians. Paul was a very special helper to God. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Paul was able write down exactly what God wanted us to know. God had lots of theses special helpers, and by following the Holy Spirit’s directions, they were able to make the Bible. If we follow God’s directions in the Bible, we will make God very happy and get to go to heaven someday!

*Practice: Write down the verse that we read out of Ephesians on a piece of paper. Make sure you remember to include the book, chapter, and verse. J

*Let’s look at our verse a little closer:

(Talk about these questions with mom or dad)

1.  What are some ways you can be kind to other people?

2.  How can you be tenderhearted, or show love, to others?

3.  How do you forgive someone?

4.  Do you know how God forgives us?

Let’s open our Bibles one more time to the New Testament (ask your mom or dad if you have a red-letter edition Bible). This time we are going to look for the book of Matthew, chapter 7, and verse 12 (Matthew 7:12).

*Read: Matthew 7:12 out loud, or ask mom or dad to please read it to you.

"Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law of the Prophets." Matthew 7:12.

Those red letters are special! Do you know what they mean? Well, if not, they are special because they let us know that Jesus was talking! WOW!

*Practice: Write down the verse that we read out of Matthew on a piece of paper. Make sure you remember to include the book, chapter, and verse. J

This verse is a very important verse because it tells us how to treat people ----

YOU TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY THAT YOU WANT TO BE TREATED!

*Let’s look at where we could use this verse everyday:

(Talk about these questions with mom or dad)

1.  Sometimes, one of our friends has a super cool toy that we just really want to play with it. So, we take it out of their hands. OOPS! Would you like it if your friend did that to you? What should you do instead?

2.  Uh-oh! Mom has a cold and is not feeling good. How do you like to be treated when you are sick?

3.  WOW! The playground got a new super-duper swirly tunnel slide! You can’t wait to get on that thing and see how fun it is. Bummer! There is a line of other kids waiting to use it. Should you cut in line in front of the others? Would you want someone to cut in front of you after you had been waiting so patiently?

4.  What other ideas can you come up with?

*FUN PROJECT TIME!

Ask your mom or dad who might be sick or need some cheering up at your congregation. You are going to make them a card for whatever their needs might be. Get out all your crayons, stickers, whatever you have that’s fun and happy! Draw them a special picture of something they like (mom or dad may know) or something you like that you think they’ll enjoy. You could write something like:

"Sorry you’re not feeling well. I know you like to plant flowers in your yard, so I drew you a picture of flowers to help cheer you up."

Or

"When I am sad, I love going to the playground and swing on the swings. Here is a picture of my favorite swing set with you and I swinging together."

You are being kind to another person by doing this. Remember how fun it is to get a nice card in the mail. You are doing that for someone else now.

Way to go! You are making God happy and doing what He wants you to do!
