Noah's
Ark
Lesson 8
It is time for Lesson 8!
Our Bible reading today is from Genesis
8:20-9:7
(Genesis
8:20-22) "And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and
took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and
offered burnt offerings on the altar. {21} And the LORD
smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I
will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake;
for the imagination of man's heart is evil from
his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing
living, as I have done. {22} While the earth remaineth,
seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and
winter, and day and night shall not cease.
(Genesis 9:1-7) And God blessed Noah and his sons, and
said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish
the earth. {2} And the fear of you and the dread of you
shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every
fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and
upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they
delivered. {3} Every moving thing that liveth shall be
meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all
things. {4} But flesh with the life thereof, which is
the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. {5} And surely your
blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every
beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the
hand of every man's brother will I require the life of
man. {6} Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his
blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. {7}
And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth
abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein."
Everyone is gone! Noah and
his family are the only people left. Eight souls are now
alone on the earth. Chapter eight, verse 20, is the very
first time in His word that God tells us about a burnt
offering on an altar. Verse 21 and 22 show us that it was
pleasing to God and here He promises that He will not
flood the entire earth ever again. This does not mean
that we will never have floods, but He says He will never
flood the whole earth or 'smite' all living things
together again.
Then, in Chapter 9 God commands Noah's family to multiply
(have babies) and to fill the earth again with people.
This was so important that, at the end of the chapter, the
command is repeated. Also in Chapter 9 God gives His
permission for Noah and his family to eat meat. This is
another "first" for Noah. Nowhere in the Bible before is
there any mention of eating meat. So, as Noah's family
adjusts to a new life, God gives them some changes as
well.

Fun project time!
If the weather is nice, ask your mom or dad if you could go
outside and use some rocks to see if you can build a small
model of the altar that Noah used. What do you think it
looked like? Talk to your mom or dad and see if they have
any ideas. You may even ask them to help you look it up in
a Bible dictionary before going outside.

Think about this!
Why
do we not give burnt offerings and sacrifices today? This
is a very important question. There are many verses in the
Bible, and the full answer could be an entire lesson by
itself, but here is one verse that may help us
understand:
(Hebrews 10:10) "By the which will we are sanctified
through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once
for all."
Jesus, by dying on the cross, became one sacrifice for
everyone so we don't need burnt offerings any
more. Jesus never sinned and we should try to be as much
like Him as possible.
Memory verse for the week:
(Genesis 9:3)
"Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even
as the green herb have I given you all things."
Only one more lesson about Noah. See you
next week!
