Noah's Ark
Lesson 1

Following Directions

Get ready to dig more into God's Wonderful Word!

Let's look at Genesis 6: 13-16 (Remember Genesis is the first book in the Bible.  The word Genesis means 'beginning.')

Genesis 6:13-16  "And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.  Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.  And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.  You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks."

Do you remember why Adam and Eve had to leave that wonderful garden God made for them?  They both sinned or disobeyed God.  They had to be punished just like we are punished by our parents today.  God put them out of the garden for their sin.  The sins did not stop with that punishment.  Their son, Cain, killed his own brother Abel.  People continued to do wrong things until they were so bad that God was sad.  He found one good, obedient man.  His name was Noah.  God gave Noah some instructions to follow.  Noah obeyed those directions and because of that, God took care of Noah and his family!  In the next few lessons we'll find out more about that.

In the instructions, God told Noah to make an ark.  That ark was like a boat.  There was a certain way Noah was to make the ark.  He could only use gopher wood and he had to make it just the right size.  There was supposed to be one window and one door.  There were rooms inside and three different levels.  That was one big boat!

Fun Project time!

It was very important that Noah follow directions.  Ask your mom or dad to read these instructions to you and see if you can follow them.

1.  Get a piece of white paper and some crayons, markers, or pencils.
2.  Draw a picture of an ark.
3.  Draw one window.
4.  Draw one door.
5.  Draw a sun shining in the sky.
6.  Color in green grass all around the ark.
7.  Draw a man (Noah) on the right side of the ark.
8.  Draw a tree on the left side of the ark.
9.  Write your name on the top right corner.
10.  Hang the picture on the refrigerator all week and remember how important it is to follow directions.

How did you do?  Did you do everything correctly?  Noah had to have everything  just right for what was about to happen.

Memory verse for the week:

Hebrews 11:7 " By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house;..."
