Gods Good Creation
Lesson 6
Fourth Day of Creation

In our lessons so far, we have found that God made light, seas and skies, land and plants.  Now let's continue with this lesson about day four.  Open your Bible to the book of Genesis, chapter 1, verses 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19.

Genesis 1:14-19:  "Then God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so.  Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.  God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.  So the evening and the morning were the fourth day."

Whew!  That is a big section.  Let's look at each verse closely.  In verse 14 God is speaking and He commands that there be lights way up in the heavens.
Heavens here means 'outer space'.

These lights in 'outer space' were to divide the day and the night.  Long ago many people used the lights for their calendar.  Instead of months, they would say, "in two moons,"  meaning after two full moons (1 each month) had appeared in the sky.  In verse 14, God told people to use the sun, moon and stars for their calendar.

In verse 15, God tells us that He also created them for light upon the earth.

Then, in verse 16, God makes 2 great lights.  The bigger light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night.

Verse 17 says that what God said happened and it was good.  This was the fourth day.

Here are your questions for today:

1.  Where did God put the lights?

2.  What is the greater light and what did it rule? ____________________________________

3.  What is the lesser light and what did it rule?

4.  What would divide the day from the night?_____________________________________

5.  Fill in the blank:
"Let them be for signs and ___________."

THINK ABOUT THIS!!!

Remember how God is such an AWESOME God and knows exactly what we need?  Well, God knew just where to place our home.  If Earth were any closer to the sun, it would be too hot to live here.  If we were any further away, we'd freeze.

God is so GOOD to us!

Here's a fun project this week:
Ask your mom or dad if you could please go out when the stars come out so you can star gaze.  Think about the BIG world that God made.  Way out there are all the stars and planets that He made.  As you look, think of how GOOD God's creation is.  It's beautiful, isn't it?

Don't forget to learn your memory verse this week!

"Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also."  Genesis 1:16

Our next lesson is for the birds!
