Fill in the blanks from the words in the puzzle

Jesus performed a _______________ using the

__________________ of a little ____________. He took

______________ loaves of _______________ and __________ fishes.

Jesus ____________ five _______________ men that day.

Another miracle that Jesus did that day was ________ on the

______________.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW!

A miracle is a supernatural event or happening. This is an event that suspends, is above, or outside of natural law. Can you think of an example of a natural law? What about the law of gravity? What happens if you throw a ball into the air? It comes down! Everything within earth’s atmosphere must come down, if it goes up! If you step into a swimming pool, without swimming, you will sink, by the law of gravity.

By natural laws, water can change into grape juice. A plant takes water and nutrients from the soil and turns it into a fruit with juice. But you remember that Jesus went outside natural law and turned water into wine (grape juice) (See: John 2).

A miracle might be described as God turning natural laws off and on.

WHY?

In Acts 2:22 the miracles of Jesus were called signs. Signs give a message. What message do you get when you see a traffic light that is green? What if it is red? You get the message that it tells you to go or stop. Miracles of Jesus were signs of something too. They were signs that showed that Jesus was the Son of God. Because He said He was God’s Son, and the signs that He did proved that He was telling the truth, we can be sure that He is the Son of God!

The Four Gospels

Sometimes people call the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John the four gospels. This does not mean there are literally four gospels. Rather four men wrote about the gospel. The word gospel means "good news."

What was the good news? For hundreds of years, God had promised that someone special was coming into the world to save mankind from the consequences of sin. The good news was (and is) that the Messiah had come. (Another word for Messiah is Christ or Anointed.) Philip, who later became one of the disciples, told another man named Nathaniel, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets wrote."

When we read one of these writers’ words about an event, we can compare his writing with the other three to learn more. And that is what we must do with this week’s study.

Be sure to begin your study by reading John 6:15-21 to answer the questions below.

1. What did the Jews want to force Jesus to be? _______________

2. How did the disciples travel to the other side of the Sea of Galilee? ________________________

3. How far had they rowed when they saw Jesus?
________________________

4. What did they see? ______________________________

5. What happened when Jesus got into the boat? __________________________________________

Fill in the blanks

You will also need to refer to Matthew 14:22-33 and Mark 4:46-51.

1. Jesus went to the mountain by Himself to _______________. (Matthew 14:22, Mark 6:46).

Jesus saw the disciples _________________ at the rowing for the _______________ was _____________ them  (Mark 6:48).

Now in the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, ______________ on the sea.

The disciples were afraid because they thought they saw a ____________________ (Matthew 14:25).

But Jesus told them, "It is I, do not be _________________"  (John 6:50).

Walking On Water

Read Matthew 14:22-33 from the New King James for answers.

1. Jesus told Peter to do this (verse 29) ________________

2. Jesus stretched it out to Peter (verse 31) ________________

5. Peter was afraid when he saw this (verse 30)____________

6. He asked to walk on water too (verse 28)_____________

8. Peter got out of this (verse 29)_______________

9. Jesus got in the boat and wind did this (verse 32)___________

10. Peter began to do this when he feared (verse 30)__________

11. Jesus said Peter had little of this (verse 31)______________

12. The disciples did this after the miracle (verse 33)__________

The Signs of Jesus

(Matthew 14:33)

Jesus didn’t hold up a literal sign. But the miracles are a sign that He truly is who He said He was. He is the ____________ of God. The disciples were amazed at what they had seen. They had seen the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand men, but their understanding was not complete. But this miracle impacted them. They worshiped Jesus saying, "Truly, You are the Son of God." As the Son of God, Jesus Christ has power over all things.

When we realize that Jesus is the Son of God, we too should worship Him!
