 Text: John 5:1-15

Family Discussion Question

1. In our lesson text we learn that Jesus went to a feast in Jerusalem.  Tell why Jews went to Jerusalem for feasts.  Choose one of the feasts that Jews attended each year under the Old Law and tell about it.  Tell about it's purpose and origins and anything interesting you can find.

2. The pool mentioned in this lesson was located (by Joseph's well, by the Sheep Gate, near Naboth's vineyard)

3. There was a great multitude of sick people who were waiting for (the second coming, the moving of the water, for a doctor to heal them).

4. An angel would (move the water,  blow his trumpet, fly swiftly).

5. The first person to step into the pool after the angel came would ( get three wishes,feel better for a while, would be healed).

6. There was a man waiting beside the pool who had been sick for (38 days, 38 years, three and a half months).

7. Jesus asked the man this question: (Do you want to be made well?, Are you sick because of your own sin or because of your father's sin?  How long have you been sick?)

8. The man told Jesus (I have no man to put me in the pool, Please put me in the water when the angel comes, Others always get in the water before I do)

9. Jesus then told the man (Go wash in the pool of Siloam, Rise and go show yourself the the priest, Rise, take up your bed and walk)

10. The day the man was healed was (the seventh day of the week, on the Sabbath, on Sunday)

11. The Jews who saw the man after he was healed said (Can we carry your bed for you?, Where did you buy your bed?, You are breaking the law by carrying your bed on the Sabbath.)

12. The man who had been healed told the Jews (The man who healed me told me to carry my bed., There was a sale on beds in Cana, I would rather carry my own bed, thanks)

Jesus is our example in all things.  We have been told that we should imitate the way He lived.  We should treat people the way He treated people.  Jesus was very kind.  He was very compassionate.

Always be kind to others.  Look around you when you are with others and think, "What can I do that will be kind?"  "What would Jesus do if He were here?"  Always do what you think Jesus would do.
