I cry out to You;
Save me, and I
will keep Your testimonies.
testimonies - proofs
I rise before the dawning of the
morning,
And cry for
help;
I hope
in Your word.
My eyes are awake through the night
watches,
That I
may meditate on Your word. (Psalm 119:145-148)
meditate -
To dwell on any thing in thought.
Here we see that the psalmist
says:
 |
He will keep God's rules
 |
He will keep God's
proofs,
 |
He hopes in God's Word
 |
He thinks on God's word.

As we study God's Word, let us make
it our goal and habit to do the same. As we learn God's rules, let's
keep His rules.
As we see the proofs of God's
existence let's keep these proofs in our minds.
As we learn God's word, let us
hope in it and think often on it.
Your word is a lamp
to my feet And a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)
God's word is the light, which shows
us the path to Heaven. We must follow (obey) His Word if
we want to go to Heaven.
All Scripture is
given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man
of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17)
This
verse tells us that the Bible was given to us by God and His words are
what we need to live the way He wants us to live.
So in order to know His Word we
must study the Bible... Study to shew
thyself (yourself) approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of
truth. (2 Timothy 2:15 {KJV})
Now let's begin studying God's word
and think on the things we learn and obey what He says.
John 1:1-18
Our first Lesson comes from the book
of John. When we go to the Bible we find that it is divided
into two major parts, which are the Old Testament and the New Testament.
John is found in the New Testament.
John was written by one of Jesus' Apostles. He was very close to
Jesus and they loved each other very much. As we study God's Word
we will find how much Jesus loves us too.
You will notice that
the reading assignment is in red, this means that you should
be able to click on the scripture reference in red and go to
the book of John at Bible Gateway and read your assignment right from
the computer. I will be doing this throughout our lessons.
If you prefer,
please feel free to use your own Bible.
Your assignment is to read John
1::1-18.
Please answer the following
questions:
(When
possible, please tell me where you found your answer:
Ex:
John 1:1)
1. Who was in the beginning
with God?
2. Who was sent as a witness
to tell that Jesus was coming?
3. But as many as ______
Him, to them He gave the right to become _______ of God, to those
who _____ in His name: who were _____, not of blood, nor of the
will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of ______.
4. Who is the Word that became
flesh?
5. Name something in this
lesson that we must do to become God's child?
We just read that Jesus, God's Son,
was with God when He created the world. Did
you know....
God was not
alone when He created the Heavens and the Earth? God spoke of
His son being with Him in Genesis 1:26:
Then God said, “Let
Us make man in Our image, according to Our
likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the
birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every
creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
He says Let Us, in
Our... then in John 1 we see that Jesus was with the Father during
the creation.
Extra
Thought:
In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were
made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In
Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
And the light
shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (John
1:1-5)
By reading these verses we are
taught that the Word was God. As we read on down through this
chapter we find in the following verses that Jesus is the Word.
And the Word
became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the
glory as of the only begotten of the Father,
full of grace and truth. John bore witness of Him and cried out,
saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is
preferred before me, for He was before me.’”
And of His
fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was
given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus
Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is
in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. (Verses
14-18)
So we learn that the Word which
is Christ, God's Son, is God! This can be a little hard to
comprehend so we must pray and continue to think on these things that
are hard for us to understand. We continue searching His written
Word for more information on these things.
Here are a few more passages that
tell us more of Jesus being God...
Philippians
2:5-6 says
Christ is the
form of of God and equal with God.
Isaiah
9:6-7 Christ is
referred to as The Mighty God and The Everlasting Father.
