Lesson 21

Even though Jesus is God, the Son, when He came to earth He disguised Himself to look and live just like everyone else except that He did no sin. He was so normal and “just like everyone else” that even his brothers did not believe He was Christ, the Savior.

A lot of the people who lived in Galilee followed Jesus. His brothers urged Him to go to Judea, but the Scripture says that He refused to walk in Judea because the Jews wanted to kill Him.

A major Jewish feast was coming and all Jews were required to travel to Jerusalem to celebrate. Jesus and His family were Jews; therefore, they also went to Jerusalem for the feasts. Jesus did not go up to the feast with His brothers. He sent them on without Him and He stayed at home in Galilee just a little while longer.

After His brothers left to attend the feast Jesus went, too, but in such a way that no one knew that He was there. We don’t know exactly what He did, because the Bible doesn’t say, but perhaps He was invisible. Maybe He made Himself to look like someone else. We are told of at least two other occasions when He disguised Himself so that others did not recognize Him.
