Lesson 35

Lesson Text:  John 9:35-41

Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”
He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”  And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.”  Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him.

And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”  Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, “Are we blind also?”  Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains. (John 9: 35-41)

Family Discussion

Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world.”  Discuss the final judgment of Christ and what will be used to judge us. Find at least one passage that deals with the final judgment.

The Good Confession

Jesus asked the man he had healed of blindness if he believed in the Son of God.  The man wanted to know who He was.  Jesus told Him that he was talking to Him, the Son of God.  The man told Jesus that he believed and then he worshiped Jesus.

Jesus has taught that everyone who believes in Him must make that same confession:

Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. ( Matthew 10:32)

...That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)

Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. (1 John 4:15)

The former blind man had already confessed that he believed in Jesus.  We read about it in our last lesson.  He confessed his belief in Jesus and that is why the Pharisees cast him out of the temple.  He told them:

“Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes! Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him. Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.” (John 9:31-33)
