Kid's Korner

Text for our Lesson: John 4:1-42

In our lesson today we learn that Jesus traveled through Samaria.  When he grew weary from his journey, He sat down beside a well.  A woman from the nearby city came out to draw water from the well. Perhaps Jesus was thirsty from the heat of the noonday sun because he asked the woman for a drink of water.  She let him know that she was very surprised that He would ask her for water.
1. Why did she say that this surprised her?
2. What is racial prejudice?
3. Why is racial prejudice wrong?
4. Name some other ways that people can be different from each other and because of these difference they are sometimes treated differently than others.  They may even be mistreated!
5. Jesus told the woman that if she knew who He was she would ask Him for something.  What was it?
6. But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never _______ . But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into _______  _______  .” (John 4:14)
7. Jesus told the woman that the Father is seeking people whose worship of Him will contain two important elements. What are they?
Jesus told the woman some things about herself that a stranger sitting beside the well could have never known!  She knew then that He was the Messiah the Jews said was coming!
She ran back into the city to tell her friends!
Do you know how important it is that we tell our friends about Jesus just like this Samaritan woman did!  If we truly believe in Jesus we will not want to keep the good news to ourselves!
8. Name some ways that kids can spread the good news about Jesus:
The Samaritan woman’s friends all rushed out to see Jesus.  They invited Him to stay with them which He did and He taught them about His Kingdom.
9. Find a verse that indicates the Samaritans understood that Christ had come not for Jews only, but for everyone.

10. In our lesson text we learn  that Jesus sat down by the well at the 6th hour.  In the way we count time, the 6th hour was the same as noon.   They began counting at 6 AM.  With this in mind tell what time of the day the events in the statements below happened:

____A. Emily called her friend at the 9th hour  to invite her to go to Bible class with her.

____B. Brad got the neighbors cat out of the tree at the 4th hour.

____C. Lucy folded towels for her Mom at the 11th hour.

____D. David fed the dog at the 2nd hour.

____E. Anna worked her Bible lesson at the 7th hour.

Family Discussion Question:

(Note: A family discussion question is one that can be used at the dinner table, during family devotional period or at times like when you are riding in the car.)  Discuss racial prejudice and why it is wrong.  Talk about places in the Bible where we can learn that it is wrong.  If you do not already know, ask your parents what the Apostle Peter did that showed that he was racially prejudiced.  Discuss whether or not you think he worked to overcome his prejudices.
