He
shall judge the world in righteousness, and He shall administer judgment for
the peoples in uprightness. (Psalm
9:8)
There
are those who say we cannot judge at all. They come to this conclusion
from the text in Matthew 7. Let's read it within its context:
Judge
not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be
judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And
why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider
the plank in your own eye?
Or
how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your
eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove
the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the
speck from your brother’s eye. (Matthew 7: 1-5)
The
verses above tell us we have no right to go to a brother/sister to make
known to them sin in their lives if we have sin in our life. We
need to clean up our own lives before we can help others.
If
we have obeyed the Gospel and are walking in the light (1
John 1:7) then we should
always be willing and ready to help a brother/sister overcome or see sin
that will cause them to lose their soul. We are told to admonish:
ADMON'ISH,
v.t. L. admoneo, ad and moneo, to teach, warn, admonish.
1.
To warn or notify of a fault; to reprove with mildness.
Count
him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. (2Thess. ).
2.
To counsel against wrong practices; to caution or advise.
Admonish
one another in psalms and hymns. (Col. 3).
3.
To instruct or direct.
Ladies,
I am not sure about any of you but I pray that my sisters are willing to
admonish me. I want a home in Heaven with God. I may not see the sin
that is reigning in my life and condemning my soul to an eternity in Hell.
We
are given the standard by which we will be judged:
He
who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges
him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. (John
12:48)
Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”
(John
7:24)
We
can go to the New Testament and know how God Judges. We can use
scripture to judge righteously. The Scripture is given to us by God in order
that we know how we ought to live. (2
Timothy 3:16-17)
Open
your mouth, judge righteously, And plead the cause of the poor and needy.
(Proverbs 31:9)
