His Blood Be on Us

By Billie Duty

Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, "Not one of His bones shall be broken." And again another Scripture says, "They shall look on Him whom they pierced." (John 19:31-37)

All of this happened in order to fulfill scripture! Remember what Jesus said early in His ministry "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill." (Matt. 5:17)

One has to wonder what the Jewish Leaders were thinking during this time. They had even stirred up the people demanding Him to be crucified, and they said, "His blood be on us and on our children" (Matt. 27:5). How many of them now understood that this was divine blood, the blood of the only Son of God?

Did you know that when children of God go back into the sinful world, we fall away from the one faith  (Eph. 4:5) they crucify Him all over again?

...if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. (Heb. 6:6)

May we love one another as Christ loved us; willing to help each other in all things, especially when we see one in sin.

Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Gal. 6:1-2)
