The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men,  To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. They have all turned aside,

They have together become corrupt;  There is none who does good, No, not one.   (Psalms 14:2-3)

God knows the heart of every individual.  He looks for those who understand and who are seeking Him.  Yet in His search He must go through a lot of trash and filth before he finds that one rare and precious heart who is seeking Him.

The wicked have convinced themselves that there is no God who sees their wickness, therefore they can do whatever they please.

There is no darkness nor shadow of death where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
(Job 34:22)

Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.          (Psalms 139:12)

Woe to those who seek deep to hide their counsel far from the LORD, And their works are in the dark; They say, "Who sees us?" and, "Who knows us?" (Isaiah 29:15)

An interesting thing about Jonah was that he thought he could hide from God in the belly of the ship, yet he had faith that God would see  him and hear his prayer in the belly of the great fish in the bottom of the ocean.

Are we like Jonah?  We convince ourselves that we can hide our secret sins from humans therefore God does not see either.  Yet, when we are in a jam, no matter where it is or what hour of the day, we are confident that God can see and hear us!

You have set our iniquities before You, Our secret sins in the light of Your countenance. (Psalms 90:8)

“...you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out.”  (Numbers 32:23)

I think that the verse my Mom quoted the most when I was growing up was Numbers 32:23.  She let us know that if we were hiding something she wasn’t even going to worry about it, because we could, “be sure our sin would find us out”  She had me convince of it and I didn’t try to hide anything from her and to this day, I know I can’t hide anything  from God.  I confessed to my Mom my most hideous sins.  Numbers 32:23 is a good verse for every Mom to know and to use.  We don’t want our children to grow up with a Jonah-like view of God.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man's all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil. (Ecc.12:13-14)
