"Give
ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication."
(Psalm 55:1)
As
followers of Him we have God's ear. He will hear our prayers and will
deliver us. What a blessing this is, what a gift that we have been given!
Imagine, if you will, how it would be without this faith that God will hear,
He will answer and He will be there for us.
How
horribly lonely and lost we would be without the knowledge that we can pray
and He will listen. David, at the time he wrote this Psalm, was accused of
horrible crimes. He lived each day in constant fear for
his life. He longed for wings as a dove so that he might fly away from all
his enemies and troubles. He called upon the Lord constantly to save him as
we can see in Psalm 55:22:
"Cast
thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer
the righteous to be moved."
Do
we remember the Lord only in times of trouble or do we call to Him daily as
an anchor and a strength in our life? God will be there for us, sustaining
us if we are His children (Psalm
37:5; 1
Peter 5:7). This doesn't mean He will always remove our
burdens completely but He will give us strength to bear them, faith that is
stronger because of them and a heart that is strong if we stay focused and
following Him (1
Corinthians 10:13; 2
Peter 2:9). He will lead us to victory! We
just have to be faithful and willing!
