Exactly
what does the Bible say about the two separate rolls? Today
we will look at passages from the Lord concerning the ROLE
OF MAN. We will consider his role in the home and his role in the
church.
The
Man’s Role
From
the Beginning
Then
to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have
eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of
it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of
it all the days of your life.
Both
thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb
of the field.
In
the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For
out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall
return.” (Gen.3:17-19)
Blessed
is every one who fears the LORD, who walks in His ways.
When
you eat the labor of your hands, you shall be happy,
and it shall be well with you. Your wife shall be like a
fruitful vine in the very heart of your house,
Your
children like olive plants all around your table. Behold, thus shall the man
be blessed who fears the LORD.
The
LORD bless you out of Zion, and may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days
of your life. Yes, may you see your children’s children.... (Psalm 128)
Man
goes out to his work and to his labor until the evening. (Psalm 104:23)
Her
husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land.
(Proverbs 31:23)
But
if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his
household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. (1 Timothy
5:8)
And
you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring
them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
(Ephesians
6:4)
Qualified
Men Serve as Bishops
This
is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he
desires a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife,
temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;
not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not
quarrelsome, not covetous;
One
who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with
all reverence (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will
he take care of the church of God?); not a novice, lest being puffed up with
pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. Moreover he must
have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach
and the snare of the devil. (1 Timothy 3:1-7)
Qualified
Men Serve as Deacons
Likewise deacons must be reverent, not
double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, holding the
mystery of the faith with a pure conscience. But let these also first be
tested; then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless.
Likewise,
their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate,
faithful in all things. Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their
children and their own houses well.
For
those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a good standing
and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. (1
Timothy 3:8-13)
God
ordained that men should lead prayer. The original Greek Word for
“men” in the verse below means “male”.
I
desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without
wrath and doubting; in like manner also, (1 Tim.2:8)
God
ordained that men teach and preach publicly
Let
a woman learn in silence with all submission. And I do not permit a woman to
teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. (1
Tim. 2:11-12)
Tomorrow
we will present the verses which give the ROLE of WOMAN.
