"Oh, that man would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness." (Psalm 107:8-9)We live in a society that is not very thankful. Some feel like the world owes them, instead of the other way around. John F. Kennedy said, "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." We could rephrase this and say, "Look at what God has done for you; now what can you do for Him."
God is filled with goodness, and He blesses mankind abundantly. Every day the sun comes up and goes down. He sends the rain and all the growing things on the earth. He controls the very air that we breathe. Mankind as a whole never stops to thank the Giver of all these things that sustain life.
At the springtime of the year, I always find it amazing that after a winter of "deadness" everything comes "back to life." The grass grows, the flowers bloom, the trees bud and the birds sing. It is as though it is a resurrection of the earth.
If everyone would turn to God, they would know how God can bless them and satisfy the longing in their souls. They could know how He can fill the hunger inside them. They could know His goodness, His grace and mercy, and His everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3) for them. All He does is wonderful! He gives blessing upon blessing upon blessing. We need to expound our thankfulness to Him every hour of every day, showing Him we appreciate all He does for us, all He gives to us, and all His love for us.
Holy God, we ask Your forgiveness for not being more thankful to You for all that You are and all that You do for us. Help us to love You more! In the name of Jesus, Amen.
