God's Wonderful Law

By Regaina Thompson

Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart! They also do no iniquity; They walk in His ways.

You have commanded us to keep Your precepts diligently. Oh, that my ways were directed To keep Your statutes! Then I would not be ashamed, when I look into all Your commandments.

I will praise You with uprightness of heart, when I learn Your righteous judgments. I will keep Your statutes; Oh, do not forsake me utterly! (Psalm 119:1-8)

Psalms 119 magnifies and praises God’s wonderful law. How helpful and how much wisdom we gain by following His law. How much pain do people cause themselves by the fact that they refuse to follow God’s law?

Our society is so dark at times and it is all because we have thrown God out of everything. We don’t want Him in the schools, in the work place, or in the government. How can we expect our lives to go smoothly without Him? He is righteousness and truth.

Everything in his law is good!

Vs. 4 says that we are to keep His precepts diligently. Another version says obey fully. How often do we do pretty good, but not all the way? What is good enough?

Vs. 5 is almost a cry for help to keep His statutes. Sometimes it is hard to be diligent in all areas.  I have often wondered why it is hard to follow His law when He has done so much for us? Jesus suffered for our sins and yet following Him is so hard.

We are very selfish creatures.  We owe Him everything!  His law, the New Testament Law, the Law of Life and Liberty in Christ Jesus, is not a burden. Just as a parent knows what is best for his child, God knows what is best for us.

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (Matt. 11:29-30)

Let us learn to love His Law and to follow it diligently!
