As we near election day, November 2, 2004,
I want to encourage each of you to get out and vote. I have heard
several say, and I know it has certainly been a concern of mine, that this is
perhaps one of the most important elections of our lifetime.
As important as it is for you to vote, it
is imperitive that you also spend much time in prayer between now and election
day. Pray for God to guide you in your choice. Pray that the God
will help our nation to choose the man who will use his power as
President to make decisions for our country that will best
serve the cause of Christ.
The following thoughts are taken from an
article written by my brother-in-law, Gary Pollard. They are
adapted to fit the format of our daily devotional:
Have you considered God's
platform?
Blessed is the nation
whose God is the LORD. (Psalm 33:12a)
Righteousness exalts a
nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.
(Proverbs 14:34)
Trust the Lord with
all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways
acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.(Proverbs 3:5).
God says to America, as He said to ancient
Israel, not to forget Him or replace Him, but to repent before Him
to be healed (Deuteronomy 8:7-14,19-20; 2 Chronicles 7:14).
John Adams was the first President to live
in the White House. After he spent the first night there, he wrote his
wife Abigail. He said, "Before I end my letter, I pray to bestow
the best blessings on this house and all that shall hereafter inhabit it.
May none but wise and honest men ever rule under this roof."
This brief and simple prayer speaks across
the years separating John Adams' from our own. Yet, prayer knows no time
limits. We in America today, in the spirit of Adams, ask God's blessings
to dwell within our country and with her President, whoever it may be.
Our forefathers understood that there is a
solid connection between good people and government. So did Alexis do
Tocqueville. He came to America in the 1800s seeking the source of
America's greatness. He concuded, in oft-repeated words, "America
is great because America is good. If America ceases to be good, she will
cease to be great."
America Is At The Crossroads
In this election year, America is at the
crossroads. Either we return to being a nation under God or we will
become a nation under atheism, liberalism, and secular humanism--a nation
without a moral compass or conscience. The choice is up to us and the
people we elect to represent us.
May the hand of God guide us as we
enter the voting booth on November 2nd.
Tomorrow, we will consider three points
Gary made in his article that should help Christians with their choice
for President.
