Fruit of the Spirit Poster Child

By Sandy Ditoro

If God were looking for a Fruit of the Spirit poster child, would He choose you?

When God spoke in the Old Testament of the New Law and the New Zion which He envisioned, He made it clear that the imprint of His nature would be imbedded in our hearts if we belonged to Him.

Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant…I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. (Taken from Jer.31:31-33)

What is His nature?  Gal.5:22 tells us if we implant the teachings of His Word into our hearts we will bear the fruit of His Spirit.  God in His all knowing wisdom knew how to deliver His Nature to mankind through Words. If we ingest them, digest them and they become a part of us, then His Nature will become evident to everyone through our attitude and all of our actions.

Jesus said: You will know them by their fruits” . (Matt.7:16)

What are the fruits we will bear if We have His Nature stamped on our hearts?

Oh, love the LORD, all you His saints! For the LORD preserves the faithful,…. (Psalm 31:23)

But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You. (Psalm 5:11)

I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)

But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth (Psalm 86:15)

For His merciful kindness is great toward us, And the truth of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD! (Psalm 117:2)

Good and upright is the LORD; Therefore He teaches sinners in the way. (Psalm 25:8)

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. (Psalm 37:23)

Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. (Psalm 37:3)

And in Your majesty ride prosperously because of truth, humility, and righteousness; And Your right hand shall teach You awesome things. (Psalm 45:4)

"I will guard my ways, lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, While the wicked are before me." (Psalm 39:1)

If someone followed you around with a checklist, how many of the fruit of the Spirit would they find you bearing in your daily life?
…Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.  (Matt.7:16-20)
