Who
can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart
of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. She does
him good and not evil all the days of her life. (Prov.31:10-12)
As
we begin the New Year, the Ladies Daily Devotional has scheduled a series of
articles which will be presented over a period of several weeks considering
the topic of “a virtuous wife”. I pray that you will
prayerfully read and meditate on each article. God has
instructed us to teach one another how to become better wives, mothers,
keepers at home. This is an area of study that is so vital
and yet so woefully neglected. I want to encourage
you to pray each day of this year for God to help you to be the very best
Christian wife you can possibly be.
(Note
to those who are not married: If you are older,
please read and think on these things, considering that God has commissioned
you to teach younger women how to be “keepers at home”. If
you are younger and planning to marry
someday, please consider these things well so that you will be prepared when
you become a wife.)
From
God’s perspective, what is a “virtuous wife”? A
virtuous woman is not someone who uses her talents to compete with man in his
role. God has given woman her own unique roll. It
was designed by God for woman and not for man.
We
do not learn how to be a virtuous wife from any ungodly, worldly source or
institution. Such institutions belong to the devil and
through them, he presents his ideals for woman’s role which is designed to
undermine or destroy God’s pattern. When a woman
approaches the Bible for the first time for instruction concerning the
Woman’s role, she should thoroughly scrub her mind of any preconceived ideas
and concepts, realizing that any former thoughts were possibly tainted with at
least some of the Devil’s notions.
God’s
pattern was designed by Him to get men, women, boys, and girls into Heaven.
God’s pattern could cause the church and nations to grow strong if it
were practiced by great numbers. Therefore free your mind of any earthly
prejudices and let us examine God’s Word for the next few weeks and consider
what it means to be a “virtuous wife".
