He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. (Isa.53:3)
As we continue this series of verses here in Isaiah, we see that men rejected Him. God in His infinite wisdom sent an ordinary looking man that we could identify with, but because He wasn't outstanding in some way, He was rejected. However, this too is in our favor because He has suffered as we do and more. He understands our suffering, temptations, and weaknesses because of all of the things He went through on earth.
Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted. (Hebrews 2:14-18)
The Hebrew writer points out how He can offer us mercy and grace because of His own suffering and temptation. What a blessing to have a Savior that understands, and that we can go to no matter what we are suffering or struggling with! What comfort and reassurance we have in this!
