Arise, O Lord, disappoint [anticipate] him, cast him down;
deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword. (Psalm 17:13)
In this text David is continuing his prayer for God to help deliverer him from
his enemies. He knows with God's help he'll be victorious!
Their Portion In This Life
...O Lord, from men of the world, which have their portion in this
life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy treasure..... (Psalm 17:14)
Although, some who are evil may enjoy the materialistic things in this
world, these things will not last. That which is of real value are the things
which are eternal. In the end, those who have loved and obeyed God will be
greatly rewarded.
"Not
everyone that sayeth Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven. But he which
doeth the will of the Father who is in heaven." (Matt. 7:21)
"But
Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good
things, and likewise, Lazarus evil things, but now, he is comforted, and thou
art tormented." (Luke 16:25)
Lazarus did not live an easy life. He was poor and he ate the
crumbs from the rich man's table. At the same time, it appeared that the rich
man was blessed with many possessions. In the end and throughout all
eternity, it was Lazarus who was truly blessed and who received a great reward.
Lazarus chose God in his lifetime and the rich man chose to love and to trust in
his riches.
I Shall Be Satisfied
As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be
satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness. (Psalm 17:15)
"Beloved,
now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be; but we
know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he
is." (1 John 3:2)
We do not know what we will look like in Eternity, but, we are told
that we will be like Him. The scriptures indicates that we will recognize
and know one another.
