You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden….Let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matt.5: 14,16)
Christians are the city of God. We are the only light that this old world has. All about us is spiritual darkness. We illumine the world….
….With the gospel of Christ,
….With our kind deeds,
….With our pleasant ways
….and With a loving attitude.
Recently, Nina and I ate at one of our favorite restaurants. The waiter was very happy to see us. He remembered our usual order and went out of his way to make our visit pleasant. When he brought the bill, he said that he had purchased my coffee and the chips and salsa because we were his favorite customers. The bill came to only a little over six dollars.
I felt a twinge of sadness to think that such a small amount of friendliness and kindness had made such a big difference… enough that we were his favorite customers. I thought, “What kind of treatment does he usually get from his customers?”
We usually leave Paul’s business card with our tip. It has on it the times of our services, the address of our building and even the plan of salvation. I thought as we left, “I hope that he understands that our pleasant ways are just a reflection of the love of our Father”.
God’s Church Is The Joy Of The Whole Earth
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God. In His holy mountain.
Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion on the sides of the north, the city of the Great King.
God is in her palaces; He is known as her refuge.
Walk about Zion, and go all around her. Count her towers; (Ps. 48:1-3,12)
Tell Your Children Of The Beauty Of His City
Which Is The Church
Mark well her bulwarks; Consider her palaces; that you may tell it to the generation following. For this is God, our God forever and ever; he will be our guide even to death. (Ps. 48:13-14)
