Most of us have heard a form of the story of trickery in obtaining Isaac’s blessing for Jacob. Let’s take a close look together at a few verses found in this passage of scripture:

Then Rebekah took the choice clothes of her elder son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son. (Genesis 27:15)

Rebekah did not choose just any of Esau’s clothing for Jacob to wear into his father, Isaac. “Rebekah took the choice clothes of her elder son Esau”. Even in trickery and deceit Rebekah chose to give the best in accomplishing what she and her younger son had set out to do. Notice another verse in this chain of events that tell us she did not use just anything it had to be the best: “Go now to the flock and bring me from there two choice kids of the goats, and I will make savory food from them for your father, such as he loves.” (Gen. 27:9)  Rebekah even commanded that the choice of the meat was to be prepared for Jacob’s father. All of this was done in order to trick Isaac into blessing Jacob instead of Esau.

Satin uses nothing but his choicest schemes in deceiving us:

“...For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.” (
2 Corinthians 11:14)

Once Jacob goes into his father we find another interesting verse:

And he came near and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him and said:
“ Surely, the smell of my son Is like the smell of a field Which the LORD has blessed."  (Genesis 27:27)

Jacob smelled his son’s clothing, he knew the smell of his elder son, Esau. He surely enjoyed the smell of his favored son (Genesis 25:28).

From all of this we can gather that people give their very best to get what they want.

God gave the choice of heaven, we should give our Father our best (John 3:16; 1 John 3:1
). When we give the choicest of ourselves we become a sweet smell to our Father. (Philippians 4:18)

However, many claim to be Christians, to be living by God’s Word. They try to "steal" God's wardrobe like Jacob stole Esau's choice wardrobe by trying to claim it without repenting or by including man made practices into their religion.

May we each choose to put on Christ and not take Him off for any reason:

And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (Romans 13:11-14)

God has given us a “choice” wardrobe today:

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (Galatians 3:27)
