By Elizabeth Peak
"If indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as is the truth in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which is created according to God in true righteousness and holiness." Ephesians 4: 21-24
What composes "being renewed" in the spirit of your mind? It means to abandon the former way of life and assume a new way of life. One must renovate the mind as one would remodel a house.
Out with the old mind set and in with a new mind set
Out
with unclean thoughts—in with pure, clean thoughts.
Out
with filthy language— in with words spoken in love.
Out
with anger— in with love and kindness.
Out
with lying— in with truth.
Out
with unwholesome literature — in with God’s Word.
Out
with a hot temper — in with a sweet calm, controlled spirit.
Out
with covetousness — in with being content with what you have.
Being renewed is giving yourself totally to God. He will be Lord of your life. Paul puts it this way in Romans 12:3:
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable, and perfect."
