Anger Management

 By Geneva Bookman

(Writer of the Week)
Part 2

Proverbs 29:11 tells us that A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back." Through proper study of God’s word along with observing mature Sisters and Brothers in Christ, I discovered and continue to learn that although anger is a part of our existence, as Christians we are given the power to control it rather that having it control us.
Both Proverbs 16:32 and Proverbs 29:11 are a strong source of comfort and support in my efforts to manage feelings of anger, in that these passages show us that God acknowledges anger as a part of our being. And that God knows we will experience feelings of anger.  However, He’s also tells us that through Him we have the power to get and keep this and any other feeling under control. For there are no feelings, temptations, hurt or even harm that He does not provide for us a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Through scripture I discovered that I was not being told as a Christian to never again have feelings of anger. Instead I am to watch myself! (Mark 14:38)  I am to control this feeling along with the many other God given feelings I will probably continue to have.  However, as a Christian living before the world as well as before my Christian brothers and sisters, I should be seen reacting to some of the same old issues in a brand new way (Ephesians 4:22).
