"Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness; thou
hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my
prayer." (Psalm 4:1)
David begins this psalm with thanking God for
strengthening him during his times of distress. He is especially thankful that
during his times of distress, his righteousness increased.
Have you ever noticed that when you are faced with any adversities requiring you
to put your faith to work, the end result brings you an increase of faith? Each
time you rely on God, you will be made stronger. It is essential that all
Christians learn how to ask, rely and receive from God. This is part of the
growing process for each Christian.
"My help cometh from the Lord, which made
heaven and earth". (Psa. 121:2)
"The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time
forth, and even for evermore." (Psa. 121:8)
Just as God heard and answered David's prayer, he
continues to hear and answer our prayers as well. Just think, God has been
listening and answering prayers ever since the beginning of time. There was a
time when God spoke directly to the heads of the families. This era was called
the Patriarchal Age and was during the times of Noah, Abraham and others. Later,
during the Mosaical Age, God spoke to Moses and to other prophets, like Isaiah
and Jeremiah.
Previously, those living during Bible times only had parts of the scriptures
written on scrolls. Today, we have no need of God speaking directly to us. For
nothing else is to be revealed to us other than what is in the scriptures. We
have the entire word of God. It instructs us how to obtain our salvation, for we
are now living in the Christian dispensation, which began when the church was
established. Acts 2:2
"All scriptures given by inspiration of
God.....for instruction in righteousness; That the man of God may be perfect
thoroughly furnished unto all good works". (II Tim. 3:16-17)
