the children of Israel and what tasks did they perform?
Deuteronomy 5:1-5
Leviticus 16
I Samuel 3:19-21; I Samuel 7
MY STORY:
Once Glen and I made the choice to adopt, we contacted a local
Christian Agency to help us with the process. We were blessed to be given a
wonderful Case worker. She served as our Mediator between so many different
people. Instead of contacting a lawyer, a foster family, a psychologist, a birth
mother, a doctor, etc. we only had to contact Dianna. She made all the necessary
arrangements for our home study, court dates, showing our biography to the
prospective birth mothers, arranging foster care for our child until time to
bring him home, organizing and sending the appropriate legal documents, working
with the hospital where our child would be born, and I am sure so many acts that
we didn’t even realize were going on or were needed. If I needed information I
only had to contact Dianna. While I was teaching school and going about my busy
life of anticipation, she was working on my behalf to make our dream a reality!
GOD’S STORY
Picture in your mind that you have been caught doing something
illegal. Perhaps stealing or causing bodily harm to someone. You are arrested
and taken to court. Many of us do not understand the court system and all its
jargon to properly represent ourselves. We would call in a lawyer who was
trained to talk with the judge and plead our case. The lawyer would handle all
the necessary paper work and direct us in what to say in court. We have just
that same lawyer pleading our case in Heaven! Let’s take a look at this
scenerio from a spiritual standpoint.
God has a very similar story for us. We are sinners and cannot
stand in the presence of a pure and holy God.
1. If we say that we have no __________, we deceive ourselves, and
the __________ is not in us. I John 1:8
2. If we say that we nave not __________, we make Him a __________,
and His word is not in us. I John 1:10
3. For __________ have __________ and fall short of the __________
of God. Romans 3:23
4. Therefore, to him who __________ to do good and does not do it,
to him it is __________. James 4:17
As sinners we must appear before the judge on Judgment Day!
5. But why do you judge your brother: Or why do you show contempt
for your brother? For we shall __________ stand before the __________ seat of
Christ. For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, __________ knee shall
bow to Me, and __________ tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us
shall give __________ of himself to __________. Romans 14:10-12
6. For we must _________ appear before the judgment seat of
__________, that each one may ___________ the things done in the body, according
to what he has done, whether __________ or __________. II Corinthians 5:10
7.And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the
__________. Hebrews 9:27
The wonderful news is that we do not have to appear before the
Judge alone! If we are children of God we have a “lawyer” to call upon.
8. My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may
not sin. And if anyone __________, we have an __________ with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous.
9. Using a concordance, look up the Greek word for Advocate. Write
the Greek word and its meaning.
10. For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands,
which are copies of the true, but into __________ itself, now to appear in
the presence of God for __________. Hebrews 9:24
We have learned that an Advocate is someone who stands alongside of
us. One who offers comfort in our times of need. We learn in scripture that
Christ is our perfect comforter!
11. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot __________ with our
__________, but was in __________ points tempted as we are, yet __________ sin.
Hebrews 4:15
12. Read Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; and Luke 4:1-13. Write a
paragraph comparing these temptations to our temptations today. How did Jesus
fight His tempter? Use scripture when applicable.
One of the most moving passages in the Bible takes place in the
Garden of Gethsemane. In John chapter 17 we read of Jesus’ time in the garden
just prior to His death. Many times we learn of His prayer of intercession for
Himself, but I fear we miss the end of this chapter when He is already
interceding on our behalf!
13. Read John 17:20-26
a. Who is He praying for?
b. What does He pray for?
c. Why does He want everyone to be one?
d. Where does He desire for us to be?
LESSON IN ACTION!
14. Choose one person on your “lost” list and tell them about
God and why He is so special to you. You may do this by inviting them over,
calling them on the telephone, writing a letter, or any other means of your
choice. The more personal (face to face) a choice the more meaningful the
discussion will be! Write and tell us about the experience.
