WORD STUDY: Inspire
1. All scripture is given by ____________________ of god, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness.
II Timothy 3:16
2. Using a concordance, give the Greek word and definition for
inspiration.
MY STORY:
In the fall of 1991 we began pursuing adoption classes and
completing our home study at Agape. One of the assignments we were given was to
write our autobiographies. These biographies would be submitted to various birth
mothers who would read them and choose the family in which she would like to
place her child. All our hopes were tied into this one document. We had to make
her feel like she knew us by our autobiographies. I spent days and hours writing
and rewriting our biographies. We shared our past family history, our present
situations (jobs, home, etc. ) and our future hopes of a family. We also needed
to somehow show our characters and personalities through these letters. After
much deliberation we turned them into our Case Worker and prayed!
GOD’S STORY:
God also wants us to get to know Him. He wants us to understand His
character and to desire a personal relationship with Him. He wrote us His
autobiography called “THE BIBLE”. God “breathed” into men the attributes
or characters he wanted us to know. This is only a minute description of who our
God really is. Our finite minds can not comprehend His greatness!
1. Oh, the ____________________ of the riches both of the
____________________ and ____________________ of God! How
____________________ are His judgments and His ways past finding
out!
Romans 11:33
2. “For who has known the ____________________ of the Lord? Or
who
has become His ____________________?” Romans 11:34
3. Or who has first ____________________ to Him and it shall be
____________________ to him? Romans 11:35
4. For of Him and ____________________ Him and to Him are
____________________ things, to whom be ____________________
forever. Romans 11:36
God reveals His natural attributes to us throughout the scriptures.
In today’s lesson we will define these natural attributes and find evidence of
each in the scriptures.
GOD IS TRANSCENDENT:
5. Define the word transcendent.
God has life in Him and is the source of all life. Although He
authored creation, He is not bound by its natural laws. He has the ability to
override them at will. Let’s look at an example given in scripture.
Overcomes Death:
6. Genesis we read of the fall of man. Because Adam and Eve partook
of
the forbidden fruit, we must all die.
“In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to
the _______________, for out of it you were _______________; for dust you are
and to _______________ you shall _______________ “ Genesis 3:19
7. Whereas you do not know what will happen ______________, for
what
is your _______________? It is even a _______________ that appears
for a little time and then _______________ away. James 4:14
8. But now _______________ is _______________ from the
_______________, and has become the first fruits of those who have
fallen asleep, For since by _______________ came _______________,
by
Man also came the _______________ of the dead. For as in Adam all
_______________, even so in Christ all shall be made
_______________.
I Corinthians 15:20-22
9. Read the accounts of Lazarus’ Resurrection in John 11 or the
accounts of Christ’s Resurrection in Matthew 28; Mark 16; Luke 24; and John
20.
10. List as many examples (with scriptures) that demonstrate
God’s Transcendent nature.
GOD IS IMMANENT:
Many people depict God as the designer and creator of our universe.
He came to earth and set things in motion and now enjoys His creation as a
spectator from His high and lofty throne. Nothing can be further from the truth!
11. Define immanent.
12. For where two or three are _______________ together in My name,
I am
there in the _______________ of them. Matthew 18:20
13. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I
proclaim
to you; God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is
_______________ of heaven and earth, does not _______________ in
temples made with _______________, Nor is He worshipped with
men’s
hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all
_______________, _______________ and all things…..so that they
should
seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and
_______________ Him, though He is not _______________ from each one
of us; for in Him we _______________ and _______________ and have
our
_______________, Acts 17:23b-28a
GOD IS OMNIPOTENT:
14. Define omnipotent.
I think of all the men through history who have desired power.
Kings who have requested all men to bow to them or to obey them. And yet God is
more powerful. Not only man but all of creation bows to our God and sing praises
to His name!! Psalms 72:8-11
15. Oh _______________ Lord, you have made the heavens and the
earth
by your _______________ _______________ and outstretched arm..
Nothing is too _______________ for You. Jeremiah 32:17
16. _______________ is _______________ with God. Luke 1:37
GOD IS OMNIPRESENT:
17. Define omnipresence.
God is present everywhere at the same time! If I had baked a cake
to share with you today, and everyone took home one piece, my cake would be in
all your homes. However, each of you would not have my entire cake! ALL of God
is in every place at one time. It would be like all of you being able to take
home my whole cake at the same time!!
18. Read Psalm 139. Where is God?
GOD IS OMNISCIENT:
19. Define omniscient.
As earthly flesh, we cannot look upon another person and know what
they are thinking. We can study hard and be declared a genius, but we cannot
know and understand everything about this universe! God created it and KNOWS
everything about it. He even know the deepest thoughts and desires of every
human who has lived, is living or will live!
20. Reread Psalm 139:1-6 and place yourself in that description.
God Knows
everything about you!! You have no secrets hiding from God.
21. Using a concordance, look up the word knew, know, knoweth,
knowing
in regards to the four gospels. Make a list of things Jesus
knew. Write a verse to describe each item of knowledge and
underline the
word knew, know, knoweth, knowing. Below is an example to get you
started:
*Jesus knew their thoughts: Matthew 12:25a
But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them:
LESSON IN ACTION!
In order to know our God and Savior, you must read His
autobiography. Make a commitment this week to becoming a daily Bible reader. You
may use the verses I place at the beginning of each lesson or choose your own
passages to read. There are also two additional opportunities through OBC. We
have a daily devotional you may subscribe to and also a Five Scriptures in Five
Days incentive.
