Admire His Handiwork

By Judy Cook

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.  Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.  There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.  Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.  His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. (Psalms 19:1-6)

Haven’t we all, on occasion, said, How can anyone look at the world, at the sky, and not see the hand of God? God means for us to see His work there–His glory!

The sky–as far as the eye can see–shows God’s work, shows His order. The stars and the sun and moon are awesome. The days, as they come and go, with strict regularity, sunrise, sunset, show God’s knowledge and power. Who else could have set up such a wondrous system? And even though the skies and the days do not speak or have words or even a voice, they tell His glory.

The sun is brilliant and longed-for. Don’t we all have nights of illness or of watching as one we love is ill, when we long for the sun to rise? As it rises in the morning, don’t we feel like things are better? And the sun rises and is steady in its course, it never falters or weakens. All the earth sees the sun and feels its heat. So all the earth sees the handiwork of God and feels His power, whether knowingly or unknowingly.

God has made it so easy for us to keep Him on our minds, to remind us of His presence in our lives all the time. And yet, we so often seem to forget. We get so busy with our lives that we can easily get our priorities skewed. May we take the time each day to admire His handiwork and acknowledge His presence and power. May we read the skies and the days and see God there.
