WELCOME
By Joan Miller and Sandy
Ditoro
For true Christians, the greatest joy in life is bringing a lost soul to
Christ. I often think that if each Christian helps just one other soul get
to Heaven they have lived a worthwhile life. Of course we hope to teach and
encourage many, many more than just one because each soul is so precious.
Whenever a soul has been won to Christ, it is news that is too good to not
share. Last night, Joan Miller shared with me in an email which contained
just such wonderful news. I asked her for permission to share it with you.
Explanation: Before you read Joan's story, I need to
explain a couple of things. Joan has a disabling lung condition which limits
her ability to get out and about very often. Yet Joan is ready to serve God
from home and to encourage others in any way that she can. Joan is of
valuable help to our OBC staff as an editor/proof reader. She also
contributes to the uplifting articles we use in our daily devotionals.
In Joan's explanation of the events that happened yesterday, she mentioned a
lady named Kathy. I asked her to explain who Kathy is so that you will
understand how she fits into the story:
Kathy is the lady (in her 50's)
who is a caregiver paid minimum wage by the county to work for several of us
in this senior and disabled apartment complex . That is, she does
housework/laundry/shopping that we can't do any more. She has a good heart
and high moral standards, for a non-Christian, but she's still a lost soul.
Two of her sons (with their families) had to "come home" for awhile when
they lost their jobs. She works 6 days (and 3 nights) a week to make ends
meet. I'm aiming to find some way to take a few minutes of her personal
time, perhaps during a short break, on her busiest day to have a Bible
"discussion" since she seems interested and has asked a few questions. Sooo,
I'm gonna clean up the rest of the email and then go....to....bed! Blessings
on all in Christ,
Joan
Now here is the
wonderful news from Joan:
I'm sort of scattered
tonight. Finished and polished the devo, sent it off, got a snack, Kathy
came by, we got to talking about my neighbor who is failing (kidneys are
shutting down) and who I've been working on for about 3 years or maybe 4
now, trying to get him to come to the Lord. I expressed my frustration and
decided to try one last time. Floyd, the neighbor, will be set up with
hospice in the next few days. He's on prednisone but they want to start him
on some morphine. I appealed to him one more time by printing off the plan
of salvation that Paul has on the website, asking by written note on the
back of that for Floyd to let me arrange baptism for him. Kathy took it
over, they both went over the plan of salvation. She went on home with the
extra copy I printed for her, and about a half hour later he called,
admitted he needed to be baptized and I urged him to not put it off any
longer. All he needed was a gentle nudge to let me make a call to arrange it
tonight. That takes a little time to organize but I called brother Thomson
and now it's finished. Floyd has been baptized so another soul has been
added to the church. After that was finished, I got some food in my tummy
and got drowsy. I've decided I'm a wee bit tuckered. I managed to finish a
devo and "nudged" a soul into answering the gospel in the waters of baptism.
Not too shabby a day for an old lady. Blessings for all. G'nite
Ladies, please let's keep
Floyd in your prayers and pray that Joan will have success in teaching and
converting Kathy.
Also please pray for God to bless Joan with
good health.
