WELCOME

And again: "I will put my trust in Him." And again: "Here am I and the children whom God has given me." (Hebrews 2:13)When first given this assignment I thought, 'Oh, easy! I can speak of my responsibility to the biological children God has given me.' Then on a second look into the text and context, I realized that I had a bigger picture and different angle to discuss with you.
When you begin reading from Hebrews 2:10 through the end of the chapter, you realize that the writer is not speaking of our physical children, but Jesus, our great 'captain' of the faith and his spiritual family. He took on the very nature we bear that he might understand our predicament here. "Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; to such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them." (Psalm 103:13-18 KJV)He knows first-hand the weakness of the flesh through sorrow, temptation and cares of this world, having been born, died and rose again to life eternal. Though he never had physical children, (how the world loves to tell lies on this one!) he has many children so the inspired writer can say: "I and the children though hast given me!"
His focus was always on the eternal. When our focus strays to the cares of this world and we forget the eternal, that is when we lose sight of our real life, our spiritual life in Christ.
He has gone on before us to set the example and be the sacrifice for what we cannot do - - rid my our lives of sin and guilt. But his perfect sacrifice did that, so that we have hope of life eternal. We sing praise to God, free of the weight of sin and death, because Jesus has saved us from it all! Even the barren woman can sing because she is able, through her life, to be an example and bring many to the saving knowledge of Jesus. "For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband." (Galatians 4:27 KJV)We can and must share the
wonderful story of God's love and salvation to those around us. Our mission
while here in the flesh, is to
bring as many with us to the gates of heaven by living and sharing the
Christian life with the lost and dying of this world.
We also know that we can have complete trust in God. Our life, however long or short, is in his faithful hands:
"Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be
content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave
thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13:5
KJV)
Again in Psalm 103: 17-18 "But the mercy of the
LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him,
and his righteousness unto children's children; To such as keep his
covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them."
