Numbers, Chapters 1-4: The census was more than a national count or a military draft. It was a registration that would allow the Israelites to trace their ancestry. This was very important to them as they waited for the promised Messiah. We see this in the lineage of Christ, which was the whole purpose of the Jewish nation.
