Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. (Ps. 119:97)
If we love God's law, His Word, we will carry it in our hearts and minds all day! My personal experience is that the more we dwell on His Word, the more we want to!
I love to read. At different seasons of my life I have read more than at others. Now that my children are adults I again have time to read. I like to read many different types of books. I try to read a variety. One thing I have noticed more and more is that when I am reading God's Word and then also reading books about God, about Christian living, then it seems that I can understand more of God's Word. When it becomes a meditation of my heart, it becomes easier to comprehend and then to apply it to my heart and mind.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things. (Phil 4:8)
If the books I read conform to the above passage, then my life is enriched. It becomes easier for me to be more loving to God, to my family, and to the people I come in contact with. Words are powerful. God chose Words to communicate with us. Christ is even the WORD.
A simple action that is conducive to meditation is to read a verse in the morning and then think of it all through the day. There are many books, fiction and non-fiction, which serve to draw our focus to God and His will. There are even more books that serve to draw us away from God. Even as adults we need to be careful what we are putting into our minds.
May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD. (Ps. 104:34)
