What is Worship?
There are five different Greek words used in the Bible to express the concept of worship.

Worship from the Greek: proskuneo (meaning to kiss, like a dog licking his master's hand); to fawn or crouch to, i.e. (literally or figuratively) prostrate oneself in homage (do reverence to, adore): KJV - worship

proskuneo
"to make obeisance, do reverence to" (from pros, "towards," and kuneo, "to
kiss"), is the most frequent word rendered "to worship." It is used of an act of
homage or reverence

Worship Homage rendered to God which it is sinful (idolatry) to render to any created being (Exodus 34:14; Isaiah 2:8). Such worship was refused by Peter (Acts 10:25,26) and by an angel (Revelation 22:8,9
Of the five different Greek words used to express the concept of worship, only proskuneo is used in John 4:23, 24.

There are five avenues of worship for which we see instruction given in the New Testament. A study of these avenues reveals not only what they did as worship, but also how they worshiped.
