It All Begins With A Lie

             by Patsy Norwood [Autobiography below]

“All sin in our lives can be traced back to deception or in other words.... a lie!”  When I first heard that sentence I rejected it, but after thinking about it for a while, I knew it was true.  Sin entered the world because of a lie. If we think about the sin that we struggle with in our own lives we soon realize we can trace its origination back to an incident of deception or lies also.

Armed with this information lets explore just how it all begins.  What is the starting point for lies and deceptions?  Let’s take a moment and think about our lives.

How do we treat our husbands, children, others?  What about our language, the places we go, and the things we do?  What about the way we dress?  If any of the above is in contradiction to God’s Word then how did it get to the point of being that way?

It had to start somewhere. Did it really all began with a lie? Lies and deceptions come into our lives in many forms:

·        TV

·        Magazines

·        Movies

·        Music

·        Books

·        People

·        Sometime even well meaning people such as counselors and ministers

We are influenced by what we allow ourselves to be exposed to.  Listening, reading, and partaking in/of anything that is in contradiction to God’s Word is the first step in introducing deception/lies into our lives. Studying God’s word on a regular basis will enable us to recognize these deceptions/lies.

After we have taken the first step of continually exposing ourselves to that which is in “contradiction to God’s word”, it rapidly becomes easier and easier to justify the sin.  Before long we find ourselves believing the deception/lies and unfortunately once we believe the lie it doesn’t take long until we are in bondage to it. It all begins with deception or in other words a lie.

Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.  (Psalm 40:4)
