Proverbs 14:1 says: "The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands. "
In Matthew 7:21-27, Jesus taught us that when we obey God's commandments and follow His will, we are wise; and it is compared to building our house on the rock. I believe that we are wise if we spiritually build our house on God's Word.
As I am still learning to build our house, some of my experience and suggestions come from my own experiences and the experiences of other women whom I strive to be like; women who have strong, loving marriages based on biblical principles.
Trent and I have only been married a few weeks short of a year. I have learned a lot this year; and I have learned that I have much to learn and need much growth, especially patience. The following are a few observations that I would like to share with you. These scriptures of Godly wisdom are found in the Bible.
Let us always remember:
Genesis 2:18 - "And the LORD God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him."" As wives, we have a purpose in our home. We are to be our husband's helper.
I Thessalonians 5:17 - "pray without ceasing." It cannot be more plain than that.
James
1:17 - "Every good gift and every
perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom
there is no variation or shadow of turning."
If you marry a man who is a good Christian man, who will lead your home
spiritually, you are blessed. And you should thank God every day for this
blessing.
If we are building our house spiritually,
we will do what needs to be done at that moment for the Lord and our husband,
joyfully, even if that means we have to change our plans. If we strive to have
an attitude filled with the fruit of the Spirit, we are going to be the kind of
person that others will want to be like; and we will be an honorable wife unto
our husband.
Galatians 5:22-23 - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love,
joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
self-control. Against such, there is no law."
Proverbs 31:28 - "Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband
also, and he praises her:"
If we want His blessing, the Lord needs to be in our home and in every aspect of
our life.
Psalms 127:1-2 "Unless the LORD builds the house, They
labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays
awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, and
to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep."
Proverbs 3:33 - "The curse of the LORD
is on the house of the wicked, But He blesses the home of the just."
Let us never forget this important commandment, and let us
strive to obtain wisdom and edify our homes in the Lord. This shows true love
unto our husbands.
Colossians 3:17 - "And whatever you do in word or
deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the
Father through Him."
