The New Testament

There are many prophecies foretelling the coming of Christ in the Old Testament. When Christ came, He came to fulfill the Old and to bring the New. The New came into effect on the day of Pentecost, when His church was established (Acts 2). The New Law was given to the Jews first and then to the Gentiles. (All Nations [People] were included in the law of Christ [the New Testament].)

All of the above verses show us that the Old Law in the Old Testament is no longer in effect today.

However, we find that Jesus reinstated most of the 10 commandments in His New Covenant (New Testament). Please read the verses and tell which Commandments are reinstated by Christ:

Exodus 20

3You shall have no other gods before Me.
4You shall not make for yourself a carved image
7 “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain,
8
“ Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

12 “ Honor your father and your mother

13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

17 “You shall not covet

17. Matthew 5:

18. Matt. 22:37-40:

19. Mark 12:29-31:

20. Romans 13:8-10:

21. Galatians 5:14:

22. all of Ephesians:

The only one not found is:

23. "Remember the ________ _____ , to keep it _____ . Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the _______ _____ is the _______ of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. (Exodus 20:8-11)

The Sabbath day was on the seventh day of the week which is Saturday.

24. So let ___ _____ judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or _______ , (Colossians 2:16)

This one is replaced by the command to worship upon the first day of the week, which is Sunday.

25. Now on the _____ _____ ____ _____ ______ , when the ________ _____ _______ to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. (Acts 20:7)
The Law of Christ has more commandments than 10... (examples: Baptism and Preaching the Gospel -- Matt.28:18-20; Mark 16:15-17; 2 Tim. 4:1-4; also the commands of how we are to worship and when, but we can discuss this later, maybe in another lesson).

26. Our Lord said that those who love Him will?

(John 14:15; 21; John 15:14; 1 Cor. 7:19; 1 John 2:3-4; 1 John 3:22-24; 1 John 5:2-3; 2 John 1:6).

Let’s review:

27. Was there forgiveness of Sins under the Old Law? Give Scripture to back your answer.

28. What did Christ do when He came? Give scripture to explain your answer.

29. How was the forgiveness of sins brought about? Explain your answer with the scriptures.

30. The law was a _____ to bring us to Christ?

31. What Law do we live under today? Give Scripture to prove your answer.

32. Which commandment did not carry over?

Extra Study: Look at Christ’s “but I say unto You” passages in Matt. 5-6, the sermon on the mount and make a comparison of the Law of Christ and the Old Law. The Law of Christ was an improvement because it was on the heart. We can see it from these passages.
