Introduction and Syllabus  

One time my mom and I traveled to a Gospel Meeting, as we sat there listening to the preacher, he suggested that we pick out so many men, send them to a place together for so many years having them study nothing but the Bible. Then when they came back they could tell us what the Bible says and the things that we are to do to be pleasing to God.

My mind was racing, What a great idea! Having these men tell us what the Bible says. That would sure be a lot easier than me trying to study it.

His words then brought me back from my thoughts and to his speaking… how would we know these men were really telling us truth?

What if...   they did not study hard,

    what if... they chose certain parts and did away with other parts,

        what if... they taught the traditions of men instead of the commands of God,

            what if…?

Of course, by this time he was giving much detail as to why this was not a good idea and I clearly understood. He even pointed out that there is a group of religious people in the world who have men to tell the people what the Bible teaches, these have added in their own wants and beliefs and taken out things they do not like. They hold their books higher than the Word of God, the Bible.

It was an idea that first sounded good till all the cons were put forth. This is the reason that God saw to it that we have the Bible, so that each of us could know truth.

How many of us when we get ready to go on a trip just jump in the car and start driving? I do not know about you but I don’t. I look up directions, instructions to get me to the place that I want to go. I don’t think any of us go guessing which roads to take to get us there.

Well, the Bible is our map… book of instructions/directions to Heaven.

God did not leave us guessing as to how to get there. He gives us His Word! He does not want us to rely upon man to tell us how to get there. He wants us to read and study His directions to Heaven.

We must know that His map is the only way of getting there,

We must know that no other book containing anything more or anything less can get us there.

The Bible is our road map to Heaven.
