(Lesson 2)
In a previous study we learned that God is not confusing (
1 Cor. 14:33). Man is the one who has confused the world with the Truth of God. We also, learned that God speaks to us through His Son today (Hebrews 1:1-2) and in John 1 verses 1 and 14 we come to understand that Christ is the Word, so God now speaks to us through the Written Word, in His New Testament!God says the same thing to one person as He does another. He does not show partiality:
1.
Partiality (King James Dictionary)
PARTIALITY, n. parshal'ity. Inclination to favor one party or one side of a question more than the other; an undue bias of mind towards one party or side, which is apt to warp the judgment. Partiality springs from the will and affections, rather than from a love of truth and justice.
There are two parts to God’s Word, there is the Old Testament and the New Testament. As we study His Word we find that the Old Testament foretells of the coming of Christ
and in the New Testament He has come; and we learn that God gives His Son all authority, so today we are to follow and obey the teachings of the New Testament. (We will discuss the Old Testament more a little later)
Let’s take a look at some verses:
2.
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, " _____ __________ has been given ___ _____ in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)Here we see that “
All authority” has been given to Jesus.3.
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was __________ before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, _______ and ______ appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here _____ __________ : one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." (Matthew 17:1-4)4.
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My _________ _____ , in whom I am well pleased. ______ _____ !" And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. But Jesus came and touched them and said, "Arise, and do not be afraid." When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. (Matthew 17:5-8)God tells us to Hear His Son!
So if Christ has all authority, God tells us to Hear Him, Christ is the Word, and God speaks through Christ the Word, we better listen to the New Testament Scriptures instead of man.
The point I am making is We must believe and obey the Scriptures in order to be saved. God gave them to us so that we can know Him and His Son. The Scriptures are our map to Heaven. He has given us all we need.
5.
All Scripture is given by _____ _______ _____ , and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)6.
as _____ ________ ________ has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, (2 Peter 1:3)7.
Be diligent to present yourself approved to _____ , a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the _____ ___ _____ . (2 Timothy 2:15)It is through our study of the word of God that we become knowledgeable of His truth! His Word, the scriptures is all sufficient for guiding us to Heaven.
Let’s think about what we have already covered. We said that the world is confusing when it comes to the truth of God, but when we went to the scriptures we found that God is not the author of confusion (
1 Cor. 14:33). It is man who confuses things. We wonder how this can happen, if we are all claiming to go by the scriptures. Here are a few things that cause this…Some take the verses and what they are teaching out of context. Some take only what they want and leave the rest out. (This is nothing new, people did this in Bible times too, read
Jeremiah 36.) Some say that the scriptures are out of date for today’s world and they want to update them to meet today’s society. Some do not search the scriptures for the truth, they go on what others tell them. Some even say, “God did not say not to do this!” (God has given us what we should be doing and we better be doing just what He has commanded. We know this by His Written Word.)8.
For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If _______ _______ to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if _______ _______ _______ from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (Revelation 22:18-19)9.
_______ _______ of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.10.
You shall not _______ to the _______ which I command you, nor _______ from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. (Deuteronomy 4:2)We are told not to add to or take from His Word!
11.
I marvel that you are _______ _____ so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a ________ ______ , which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach _____ _______ gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches _____ _______ gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. (Galatians 1:6-9)We better be careful and not teach or go beyond what God has commanded.
12.
Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us ____ to think beyond what is _______ , that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other. (1 Corinthians 4:6)We need to be diligent in going to the scriptures (
2 Tim. 2:15), the early Christians did.13.
These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received _____ ______ with all readiness, and _______ _____ _______ daily to find out whether these things were so. (Acts 17:11)14.
_____ _______ is given by inspiration of God, and is __________ for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be ________ , thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)He has given us His written Word which is all we need.
God gave us His Holy Scriptures to guide us because He knew that it was not in man to direct his own path.
15.
O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in _______ who walks to direct his own _______ . (Jeremiah 10:23)16. Solomon wrote, "
There is a way that seems _______ to a man, but the end is the way of _______ " (Proverbs 14:12).I hope that by now you have come to understand that the Scriptures are our sole authority, this is the only way one can know the truth.
17. God believes resolutely in absolute standards. God decided what would be right and wrong before time began.
Psalm 119:89, "Forever, O Lord, Your word was _______ in heaven." (1)God says we can know His truth and it will make us free.
18.
And you shall _______ the truth, and the _______ shall make you free." (John 8:32)19.
At the judgment, the unalterable truth of Scripture will be our judge. (2)He who _______
_____ , and does not receive _____ _______ , has that which judges him-- _____ _______ that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. (John 12:48; Also read Revelation 20:11-15)REVIEW
20. Who has all authority in Heaven and on earth?
21. Who did God tell us to hear?
22. How do we become knowledgeable of the truth?
23. Rev. 22:18-19, Proverbs 30:5-6, Deut. 4:2 tell us what?

Please ask questions anytime you have them throughout our study. Please meditate on these verses too. You are in my prayers.
